Let me recommend it too, Digger. I read it yesterday (with a few pages spared for this morning) and it really was rather good. Not perfect, but there's enough style, wit, and other playfulness within to make it an ejoyable read. Given the content, it's also miles better than a Dennis Wheatley novel.

Cool, thanks Stewart. I picked it up to take to the ER as I knew I'd have a 3 hour wait for stitches, but got rather distracted by fainting/bleeding/the guy in front with glass sticking out of his skull! It's next on the list though!

Well, finished Spoiler at the weekend and liked it in much the same way that JS and Stewart did, it's playful while still being informed. I liked all the puns on Ben's name and also that so little was made Adam's death, apart from within Ben's own thoughts, no investigation, no other characters refer to it really, that by the end of the book I was left wondering whether or not the whole thing was just in Ben's imagination. This was aided by the constant references to his psychiatrist. This made the whole ending more shocking as by that time I had almost totally got to that point - of thinking it was all in Ben's head. I actually thought the ending was a bit brief really, rushed. And was slightly dissapointed that I saw the potential role of Stella's baby from the announcement of her pregnancy.

Nonetheless, an amusing read, although I didn't feel so submerged as I did in Focault's Pendulum I was delighted not to feel as nauseated as I did throughout Duh Vinci Code.

Amanda Prantera now has her own website: www.amandaprantera.net

Nice little author comments on her books, and the prospect of a new publication from her this autumn: a translation of Marlen Haushofer's Die Mansarde, for which the English title will be My Loft Life. It will be published by Quarter Books.
