My girlfriend took a course in jewellery making a couple of years back, and while being dragged round store after store looking at 'pretties' still leaves me yawning after a couple of hours, I am at least getting better at spotting something she might like - always useful, now all I need is the money.

Anyway, I saw this mentioned on the ever-interesting Mind Hacks blog:

...At first it just caught my eye because I think it's quite pretty, but then I read on and discovered that it's a necklace made in the same shape as a human beta-endorphin! They make you happy, you know - isn't that a nifty idea?

Along the same sort of lines - my Dad - never one to do a job simply if he can make it as complicated as possible - was recently laying a patio in his back garden. Instead of just laying the slabs so they fitted together and looked alright he designed it in the shape of some super complicated compound of tungsten or something like that. Cue great sighs from my poor Mum as it proved more than a little tricky...

Nice bit of righteous anger from JunkMonkey on his latest blog post.

And yes mate, we will be keeping an eye to ensure you fulfil your NaBloPoMo obligations...
