Default Appraise on book cover

I am use to it now but i remenber being shocked the first time i bought a book in English.I do not know for other countries like spain or Germany but it's very rare to find those "praise"on French book cover.
They sound very much like advertisement. Usualy a summery in the back suffice to give you an idea if it might interest you or not.
Worst of all they often are a collection of nonsense and stupid short cuts, like "....betwin Nabokov and gavriel garcia Marquez with a touch on Conan doyle"

I have gathered a few
"a horror-dystopic-philosophical mash up that has critic drawing comparisons to Borges"

"genuinely isn't like anything you've read before"

"the bastard love-chilled of the matrix, jaws, and the da vinci code"

These 3 are for the same novel.

The classic are usualy spared and i don't mind 2 or 3 good ones under the synopsis but some book are plastered with them,I finished Requiem for the east by Andrei Makine and there is at least 20 all over the book.

I was tempted to put this as the 10 worst book appraise of all time.

Okay, you have piqued my curiosity. Which novel were these blurbs for?

Ooh, I wish that had been a quiz! I bought that book earlier this year based on those very blurbs. The Da Vinci Code comparisons do not thrill me, but a mash up of The Da Vinci Code and Jaws might.

Let's use the proper word for them: encomium. I don''t mind them on the back, although I dislike them on the front.

Oh is that what an encomium is? Always I am learning new things.

I don't mind them, saliotthomas, but I wouldn't buy The Raw Shark Texts because it stank of hype from several months before publication.
