Default Post here in Iambic Pentameter

I've tweaked the title of this thread because
It failed to represent the noble cause
Of all the posts herein. It must be said
To not do so would turn upon its head
All sense of logic, justice, honour and
Cast a most frightful shadow o'er this land
That stands for all the things that make life sweet:
Good books, good people and good things to eat.
Those last two have been known to be the same,
And we consume books too! Don't place the blame
On me for exercising my sick mind,
For humour is the best treasure to find -
Assuming I've found some, aye, there's the rub,
I'll be shot down comparing books to grub,
Or maybe they will put on me a hex
For being too obsessed with oral sex...

Fear not, good man, the censure of the crowd
For speaking thine proclivities aloud;
And sodomy today is not a vice,
In fact most people think it's rather nice.
But what of our deipnosophistic sport?
Hast thou naught of E. A. Poe to report?
Perhaps we've mined that vein a bit too long.
In that case, what's the subject of our song?
Maybe glossopharyngeal pleasures
Hold the key to more poetic treasures?

Shall we arouse it from its sad neglect?
Being bored is something I yearn to correct.

Since some are here that were not here before
There'd be some chance it would not be ignored.

I too am bored and yearning for some fun
But pay depends on work; work must be done.

I'm very glad to find this thread anew
(It makes me want to read more Shakespeare too...);
I really should be getting down to work,
Instead of being such a total berk...

But... what a fine idea to bring this back...!
And *I*'ll be back too, for another whack...

This thread is very old, but entertaining
and very good for rhyme and scansion training.

The grindstone dulls the pencil, blunts the mind.
Would we could leave its dreariness behind
And all quit working now with no regrets
To concentrate on iambs and couplets.

I can't do iambic pentameter
Because I don't know what it's all about.
Does it just mean stopping in mid sentence
Or is there something more complex to it?
