William Shakespeare
Henry James
H. P. Lovecraft
Oscar Wilde
Franz Kafka
Jessica Amanda Salmonson
Laird Barron
Thomas Ligotti
Clark Ashton Smith
Edgar A. Poe

I'm rather embarrass'd that all but one are male. Among ye women writers I adore are Virginia Woolf, Elizabeth Bishop, Helen Vendler, and Zora Neale Hurston.

On a sad note, I want to express my deep sorrow at ye recent death of genre writer, Michael Shea. His omnibus from Centipede Press, THE AUTOPSY AND OTHER TALES, is a cherish'd tome. Rest well, sweet chum.

Welcome, Hopfrog. No need to apologise, we can't help who we love...

I've not read any Ligotti (actually, half your list are strangers to me!) but we have a real fan of his amongst our members.

One of my top ten has just had an edition published by Penguin Classics: Clark Ashton Smith, THE DARK EIDOLON AND OTHER FANTASIES!! The book is fantastic. Its editor, S. T. Joshi, will be dropping by to-morrow or Sunday and we will record a promotional video regarding ye book on YouTube, during which S. T. will probably read the moving poem that Smith wrote in memory of H. P. Lovecraft.
