Default A Review Please

If you have read How to Read a Book by Mortimer J. Adler and Charles Van Doren, please post a review.

Thanks!

I've moved this to General Chat. Aquablue, please don't use the site solely as a review- and rating-request service.

Aquablue, with due respect, I think several of us here have been rather bemused by your recent "please tell me what I should read" posts... It's really not that far from saying "please tell me what I should think"...

And this is really with all due respect, because I'm familiar with the feeling of slight paralysis before starting a new book. But just take a risk... life's rather like that, after all...

I love looking through my numerous shelves of unread books to choose my next one. In fact, I think I love that more than the actual reading.

I agree Ang! I love the feeling when I'm coming near the end of a book and I get to thinking of what I'm going to read next (thus probably paying less attention than I should to the end of the present book). Forever anticipating, that's me. Why can't I just live in the moment?

When you read a book, do you always have to open the next immediately and read - oh I don't know - at least the first line, or first paragraph? I've always done that. Even in my current slo-mo phase I'm keen to have a book 'on the go'.

Yes, even if it's late at night/early in the wee hours of the morning, I like to start the first page of the next book so I'm ready to plough on with it the next day: it's really a taster and a treat (usually!) for what's to come.

It occurs to me that this is the reading equivalent of chain-smoking...
