How ambiguous, Lynne! Did you like it, or do you just mean that you think it fits certain Bookerish criteria?

I don't know about the rest of you but this prize doesn't interest me in the least. Perhaps because being able to try to guess the winner would require reading the equivalent of the English canon...

I think another problem (though some might say it's a good thing) is that it's all over the place. Philip Roth and Philip Pulman? Anne Tyler and Juan Goytisolo? Strange list, in my mind.

I've heard of 12 of those, and read 4 of them, so it can't possibly be anywhere near correct.

Am I the only one who feels like he's running at the very back of the pack when it comes to contemporary fiction? I only recognize two names and none of the titles!
Argh!

No, same here! Two authors, but none of the titles. Oh dear.

Most of the titles are from small publishing houses in the UK that don't get the exposure that the bigger presses - and all their eligible imprints - receive. That will be why some will be unfamiliar to us. (And the prize is based on UK publication, and usually US publication follows...so perhaps another reason, for the US based, anyway).
