Is this to start discussing from 1st Jan? I might try to join you, having ducked out of the last couple of books. Once I've got down to the Richard Ford - due to finish by the end of this week.

That sounds good, Col, and gives us a couple of weeks for others to join in. Seems a good read for this busy time of year as it's suspenseful and a page turner.

Maybe it's just me and life right now in this busy time, but I did not find it suspenseful or a page turner. I found it too detailed and lacking in feeling. I couldn't lose myself in it at all, which is what I need when things are busy and distracting.

I probably won't read any more of it but I'll read with interest what you have to say about it and contribute where it makes sense to.

Black Dogs looks good, both the premise and especially all its 176 pages. After the disaster which was Amsterdam, I really want to dispel any burgeoning prejudices against McEwan so that I can finally read Atonement and the full McEwan thread here.

Anyone else?

Just read the blurb on the back of Black Dogs. It sounds excellent and is quite short. Any more takers?

The start of the month is never a good time for me. I have my face-to-face book group on the second Monday.

However, I'm quite happy to read Black Dogs in the middle of the month. If you do start earlier, I'll catch up with you.
