Default The Book Group - to Keep or Not to Keep?

That most certainly is a question.

So answer it!

Fotr those who choose the 'keep but change' option, it would be useful to know what your suggestions are.

I chose keep-but-change. The changes being:
1. To bring it out of hibernation.
2. To make it clear when the discussion begins
3. To not feel bad about opting out now & then for whatever reason.

So, Rick, you're suggesting no more lashings with the cat-o'-nine-tails for people who don't contribute?

Torn between simply 'keep' and 'keep + change', along with Rick's suggestions. I've missed having the challenge of books I wouldn't normally choose to read. My RL book group is good but doesn't have quite the same range of reading. And lacking a firm date for discussions was the main thing in letting it drift.

How about we decide upon a list of books which will be read in advance. In other words, we set out now what we'll be reading for the next 6 months, or even year, thus eliminating much of the confusion?

Six months would be good - a year's worth of books might prevent us including some of the newer books that people would be interested in including eg. the Barnes Arthur and George or something from an autumn Long List we don't know about yet.

And I guess the titles in question could just emerge from the consensus during a discussion on this forum, and we could get rid of the 'Choices' forum.

This sounds like a good way forward. Once the book choices have been decided, a 'sticky' post at the top of this forum could let everyone know exactly what is on the agenda and for when.

So when shall we start this up again? Shall we start to compile a list of six books now?

Since we're well into July already, it would be better to start discussing the first book on Sept 1st, giving us 7+ weeks to acquire/read it.

I think we can come up with at least six books between the 14 active members of the group (plus anyone else who wants to jojn).

As a Book Group virgin *ahem* I think all the above suggestions are good ones.

As a control freak, I respond well to boundaries, so pre-defining the next 6 months' reading sounds like a fab idea to me. It also means being able (if desired) to order them in one fell swoop and have them eagerly waiting on the shelf.

And with the zeal of the convert, I'd like to say: no time like the present!
