Here we go: it's pretty early so all these are subject to change.

Jane Austen
Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Sebastian Faulks
Ian McEwan
Evelyn Waugh
Charles Dickens
Joanne Harris
Leo Tolstoy
Carl Hiaasen
Joseph Heller

(And this will probably have me banned, or at the very least edammed, but I can't say no to a good old drop of Vincenzi!)

No, she's not a favourite as such, just someone to fill in those reading gaps when I can't be arsed to read anything decent. I knew you'd bring her up! I was a little bit nervous about including Joanne Harris, but I haven't been castigated yet...

hmmm, this is hard... Particularly as I don't have many authors where I've read all or nearly all their whole canon. Some of these therefore are based upon single books, which I'm not sure is a good thing, though it's not bad of course!

Um, currently the ones that spring to the top of my mind are:

John Steinbeck
David Mitchell
Arthur Conan Doyle
Toni Morrisson
AA Milne
Ian MacEwan
Barbarah Kingsolver
ee cummings

oh bother, there are too many others from the past two years to make up a definitive last two... Boyd, Salter, Yates, Dickens, de Berniers... all my beloved detective authors, PD James, Colin Dexter... Oh well, 8 shall have to suffice.

This is tough. Ask me tomorrow and the list would no doubt be different, apart from the first two:

Charles Dickens
Jane Austen
Vladimir Nabokov
Muriel Spark
Anne Tyler
Carol Shields
Martin Amis
Rose Tremain
Kazuo Ishiguro

I just can't decide on the final name. It's a toss-up between EM Forster, Raymond Chandler and Barbara Vine . . . all quite different but all enjoyable.
