We have had some nasty weather this Spring. Latest mess : http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/23/us/23tornado.html

Not my State but my heart goes out to them.....second round of deadly tornados to run through the Midwest this season. The tornados are wider and they are staying on the ground for longer periods of time. And then there is the flooding......

Talking of flooding a year ago - we have major rain here today and our combi-boiler is being temperamental this last two weeks, so no heating or hot water. The plumber only just made it here a moment ago through flooded lanes.

Three months later, and another morning of torrential downpours, thunder and a sky like dark dusk. I think that week in April was our summer.

Edit: our high street is flooded, as is the secondary school (kids sent home ). Horrific amount of water here...

We had some of that last night, it rained so much that some of the trains had to be cancelled leaving from Glasgow.

Right now it's sunny though so maybe that will go your way, too.

Just phoning to cancel younger daughter attending a friend's birthday party at Alton Towers tomorrow (three hours' drive away! through the floods ) - not a happy girl...

The latest episodes of The Weather do seem scripted to reflect the current unsettled economic and political climate. A muggy sense of claustrophobia joins hands with unpredictable cloud-filled skies, dropping deluge after deluge of disheartening rain which, though interspersed with short, hope-filled bursts of sunshine, create an overall feeling of discomfort and anxiety. Whoever this new director is, I'm pretty sure he's inspired by Alfred Hitchcock.

I was thinking about you, Col, listening to the weather this week. You've certainly had more than your fair share.

I wonder if they are getting better at handling the crowds at Glasgow Central with all the delays and cancelations. Beth, is that why you were panting? Remembering our fun filled day?

I think it must be very hot where Beth is? The explanations for our weather about the jet stream implied that the US were getting intense heat whilst it delivered intense low pressure to the UK.
