Oh, c'mon, JS, he was hardly arrogant, aggressive or combative - arguably smartass, but most of us are no stranger to that. Hmm?

Category 8? A little harsh, JS, maybe? I think the remark might have been intended to be slightly more lighthearted than you read it as.

Put me firmly behind gil and wshaw. Try as I might I fail to see homo chiropter's crime. Shame on you, JS.

I think John's crime here was to miss out the word supercilious from Rule 8.

A moment's joined-up thinking makes it clear to me that what we have here is a very laid-back version of trolling; and quite frankly, after recent kerfuffles regarding both tone and content, I'm a little surprised and disappointed that longstanding members who have contributed richly to Palimpsest over the years, should so publicly take JS to task for clipping the mouthy new kid 'round the ear.

We never used to have to remind people how to act.

We never used to be so paranoid about everything either.

Look, admins, you have, ranged against you, three mature (>1000 posts) members, two of whom have been members longer than at least one of the admins, two of whom are present or past Palimpians of the Year, who are unable to see anything particularly out of line about HC's posts.

Don't you think you might have got this wrong? This isn't the way things should be happening.

OK, I'll rephrase it. No, actually, I'll just repeat it:

I think John's crime here was to miss out the word supercilious from Rule 8.

A moment's joined-up thinking makes it clear to me that what we have here is a very laid-back version of trolling; and quite frankly, after recent kerfuffles regarding both tone and content, I'm a little surprised and disappointed that longstanding members who have contributed richly to Palimpsest over the years, should so publicly take JS to task for clipping the mouthy new kid 'round the ear.
