That was - to continue the Coupling thing - Jack Davenport (probably through the Joe Ahearne/This Life connection), and also the very lovely Susannah Harker (ironic surname, considering).

Yup, I always get them confused.

Here, though, Billie P doesn't look too bad. It's a kind of shame they won't give the Doctor some slightly wacky element to his outfit.

I wouldn't be surprised if Christopher Eccleston had vetoed any quirky outfit features - although he's a fine actor, he is known for taking himself somewhat seriously.

As for bak's comment on why they had to bring it back, to be honest I think there has been pretty sustained campaigning and demanding from the fan lobby since 1989 when it was cancelled (it was interesting to see Michael Grade on Room 101 when he nominated Dr Who, saying he axed it because he hated it, it looked so cheap - to which my response as a non-fan was, Well why didn't you just give them more money then?). So I guess the BBC realise that there's a guaranteed audience for it, plus of course those lucrative DVD and merchanise spin-offs.

I nearly threw something at the screen myself when I saw that. The BBC wanted rid of it (and didn't understand it basically) and put JN-T in charge because he equally disliked it and did a very good job of making it *truly* laughable and running it into the ground.

Rather sassy new logo for the new series:

I trust, though, we will be keeping some variant of the doobly-doo, doobly-doo, doobly-doo, doobly-doo - - - OO-EE-OOOOOO title music?

They'd have to, wouldn't they? I mean the old logo looked like it had been done by some thirteen year old on work experience but the music was a piece of brilliance. Ask anyone between 12 and 50 to listen to a couple of milliseconds worth and they recognise it instantly. Also, long before Eastenders appeared they used it to do the cliffhanger thing at the end of each episode.

Oh no, Dr. Who is surrounded by Daleks. There really is no escape. What's he gonna do? Cue music.

As the new series approaches, we know now that they did keep the music pretty much identical to how we remember it.

Straight from the get-a-life files comes this over-earnest review of the first episode from a fan in the Guardian. It rightly earned this rebuke.

I can't believe I didn't catch such an important error when you first posted this message, Mr. Self...but surely the first part of the Dr. Who title music is doobity-doo, doobity-doo, doobity-doo, doobity doobity...etc.

I haven't got around to registering for Guardian Media yet but I read a few reviews from people who'd watched the leaked episode and they were all positive.
