I care, Lucoid., honest. I really, really care.

I've only seen the film once, and I really can't remember the Christmas party. I'll have to watch it again if it actually has two Bad Singing Scenes

I feel I must pay tribute on this page to Cherie Blair, who bravely came to her husbands rescue in China the other day, with her accapella rendition of "When I'm Sixty Four", when Tony turned down the opportunity to display his vocal talents.

What a great ambassador for this nation she really is. She has, I feel, justified my belief in the power of Bad Singing as an art form, and now as a political force.

Thank you, Cherie.

I guess the thread is dead but I can't believe you didn't mention Antonio Banderas in Evita. Personally I'd put him in at number one (and two, three, four, five and six) as he manages to combine a spectacular lack of singing ability with a similar level of acting prowess, which I would have thought gets him extra points. I know he's a good looking guy but so is David Beckham. You wouldn't pay to watch him sing.

the karaoke scene from Lost in Translation.

Oh that's a little unfair, gil, as I thought he had a good crack at some quite difficult songs. Mind you, he does have a slightly odd timbre to his voice which is possibly his attempt to get more power following voice training.

Well, it wasn't perfect by any means, but being in the 'love it' camp for MR, I thought it was quite good enough

Edit: to add to MikeMk1's comment, what I like about the singing in MR is that they do sound like themselves singing, and that is part of the appeal - it's not a neutered, perfectly-toned delivery. That might be an excuse for imperfection that I wouldn't necessarily accept in other musicals (though The Phantom of the Opera has some seriously shoddy singing at times), but in MR I find it more acceptable in context, and Ewan McGregor has a very good go at it. We have the soundtrack album (and do listen to it )

I agree about the voices, but I still have a beef with some of the songs selected. I'm no Bono worshipper, but Pride (In The Name Of Love) was about Martin Luther King being shot and other civil rights movement issues. It's only just bearable when performed by U2, so somehow Ewan adapting it to woo Nicole seemed a little odd.

I liked MR a great deal too, and the natural tone in the voices of Ewan and Nicole. Ewan's talent is comparatively obvious when you watch whatever that one is with Cameron dias and they do a duet version of Somewhere, beyond the sea where he stands up far far better to Ms Dias - who is gloriously atrocious.

I thought of Cameron Diaz as soon as I saw this thread, but for her murder of Mr. Brightside in The Holiday. Euuuggghh. It wasn't even 'oh, isn't she cute, trying to sing', but more 'My eaaarrss are bleeeeeding!'.

There is a great scene in Tommy Boy (hey, I liked it) where Farley and Spade sing snippets from songs on the radio. Very funny, particularly them getting stuck during REMs End of the World As We Know It. And does Vanilla Ice 'singing' about the ninja turtles count?
The Bridget Jones song was Without You, if no-one has said it yet.
