Default Blogs about books

As mentioned in the Susan Hill thread in Book Reviews, I have very recently discovered blogs and finding they are more addictive than heroin.

I pretty much limit myself in Palimp to the threads about books, so I'm limiting myself also to blogs about book related things. The one which started the whole thing for me is from our very own wildsheep. Other bloggers post comments and you can end up reading their blogs too... and of course bloggers read other blogs and reference them in their blogs.

The problem is they are really interesting. And I'm buying more books which is not something I needed to increase. But it's great.

Good place to start if you want to get hooked:

Hmm, I almost posted a comment on one of these but I have to give an email address. Do people tend to use their real email addresses on these things and if so, am I likely to get more and more spam because of it?

Ang, I have a "real" e-mail address with my "real" name for "real" people, i.e. flesh-and-blood friends, then a second one I use on sites like this. My server allows me to have up to five addresses... Check yours out. You're likely to find the address you use on blogs increasingly attracts spam... I've just changed my "unreal one", as I was getting forty-fifty spams a day.

Maud Newton and Grumpy Old Bookman are staples for a lot of book-inclined people.

I really like John Baker's Blog and John Barlow.

And on the Friday Project, can I drop any pretence at modesty to mention that Un-Made-Up has made it into this year's Blog Digest 2007?(Buy this from Amazon) Which is nice because I've had naff all else between covers for a year or so. That's unless you're counting The Best of Smash Hits.(Buy this from Amazon).

Now you've done it... had a look at Grumpy Old Bookman... added it to my favourites... when does it stop?

I don't fancy added spam within my own domain - impossible to stop... so no comments from me on the blogs... why not allow comments without an email address I wonder?

I think you're safe on most of them... On Blogger and places like that they don't publish your email address - they just want it for verification.

I imagine it's a bit like newspapers who won't publish a letter unless it has a name and address by it, but who are happy to withhold addresses.

That said, I long ago decided that if I was going to withhold my email address all the time, I wouldn't be using the net to its full advantage. Spam is annoying, but I live with it.

Just sign up for a Google Mail address, Ang. With nearly 3gb of space for messages, who cares about spam?!

And if you find you are reading a lot of blogs, you can use a new aggregator likes Bloglines, Newsgator or Google Reader to pull all the new entries into one site, meaning you don't have to visit hundreds of bookmarks.

Thanks Wavid - I have a google mail address which I've forgotten about.

I'll have a look at the aggregators as well.

So that when the blog owner sees repeated spam from certain email addresses, he can block the domain.
