Should I have included the Spoiler warning? Sorry Nou

Should be getting my mitts on series 2 and 3 this month (down to £17 quid for each on Amazon) And I have to agree, when you watch it ep-after-ep it's very hard not to include yo all the time!

Don't panic - Brooker put a warning in the middle of the Lester Freamon blurb so I averted. Just going out now to by some gauze and eye drops. I may be some time.

Having watched series one, two and three, over the past year or so, I was so re-enthused by my sister and her husband's recent excitement about their discovery of series one that Mrs S and I have gone back to the beginning and are enjoying all three series all over again!

Mos def.

Just finished series three - unbelievably good, and the actor playing Bunk deserves an oscar for just five seconds of episode seven... the scene with Omar.

Oh god, it's so good, it's so good . . . am just reaching the last episodes of Season One, for the second time. This drama really merits repeat viewings, because it's so rich in story and character. Highlights of this viewing: the chess game in the low rises where De Angelo explains the rules of the game to Wallace and Pook; the heart-wrenching scene of Bubs at an AA meeting; MacNulty and Bunk being ace detectives as they figure out and discuss what happened at a murder scene with the creative use of only one word (****!); the growth of Perk and Carver as characters; it's all just . . . just . . . genius. They take risks, as programme makers, and they respect the viewer's intelligence. It has, possibly, the most satisfying dramatic 'build' of any drama ever aired. (And I say that as a diehard Sopranos fan).

That one really is tremendous. I can't think of any other series that has done a scene like that so well - and almost every series has tried. The scene where they go slightly meta and have the characters give a synopsis of both the plot and the point of the whole show, while still staying perfectly in character and leaving the fourth wall alone.

Quote:
"Now the king, he move one space any direction he damn choose. Because he’s the king. Like this, this, this. But the rest of these motherfuckers on the team, they got his back and they run so deep he really ain’t gotta do shit. See this? This the queen. She smart, she fierce. She move any way she want as far as she want. And she is the go get shit done piece."

"What about these little bald-headed bitches right here?"

"These right here, they the pawns. They like the soldiers. They move like this. One space forward, only. Cept when they fight. Then like this. They be like the front line. Out in the field."

"How do you get to be the king?"

"It ain’t like that. See the king, stay the king. Aight? Anything stay who he is. Cept for the pawns. Now if a pawn made it all the way down to the other dude’s side he get to be queen, and like I said, the queen ain’t no bitch. She got all the moves."

"Aight. So if I make it to the other end, I win?"

"If you catch the other dude’s king, and trap it. Then you win."

"But if I make it to the end, I’m top dog."

"Nah, yo. It ain’t like that. But look, pawns man, in the game, they get capped quick. They be out the game early."

"Unless they some smart-ass pawns."
