The answer appears to be: "Yes. He was a bit boring after he'd been told not to be. "

That's probably fair enough, especially since he's got other places to be boring at. Also, he never really made any friends here.

I've objected to the admins' decisions to ban folk in the past. I think they they had a tendency to hair-trigger banning, but much patience was indeed exhibited this time.

The only problem was the slightly triumphant air of the announcement, I think.

We are looking at finally getting round to upgrading the software and rehosting the site. Stewart is helping out, so has been made an admin so he can do the necessary stuff.

Just so you all know!

At some point today, preferably when it's least busy, I'll flick the switch and proceed with updating the forum software to the latest version. It should only take me an hour, touch wood.

The above upgrading of the forum software has now been done. That's why you had to log in again today even if you tick the 'remember me' box.

We can now add tags to threads, and there are more avatars to choose from (including some lovely writer images - thanks Stewart!)... Stewart/Wavid, any other changes we'll notice as users from this updgrade?

EDIT: Oh yes, you can now add tags to threads, to assist searching.

I'm taking the Borges avatar with immediate effect. Sorry.

Profiles are a little different, in that they are tabular. I'll add a Spoiler tag button, so it should be clearer how to do spoilers. And a Tag tag, which means you can do something like [tag]Richard Yates[/tag] and it will take you to all threads tagged 'Richard Yates'.

We can also now embed YouTube videos into posts, rather than just linking to them.

You need to copy the bit at the end of the address for the video, so {youtube}Yxi6QDwQyLU{/youtube} - but with square, not curly, brackets produces this:

Please don't abuse this! Excessive YouTubing will be considered a worse offence than deploying multiple smilies.
