No mention of the McGarrigle sisters? Surely "Complainte Pour Ste. Catherine" belongs on this list? Not only is it sung in Quebecois, it even mentions hockey...

And my list would include a bunch of Cowboy Junkies tunes as well, though if I had to go with only one, I'd say "Sun Comes Up, It's Tuesday Morning."

Plus, Neil Young's best song is "Ambulance Blues" (which makes a bunch of references to Toronto, surely that's worth an extra gold star in this context)? Hmmm... in fact, just because I'm bored, here's a top 10 of Neil Young songs about Canada:
1. Ambulance Blues (Toronto)
2. Don't Be Denied (Winnipeg)
3. Hitchhiker (Toronto)
4. Helpless (Omeemee, Ontario)
5. Time Fades Away (Canada in general)
6. Long May You Run (Blind River)
7. Journey Through the Past (Canada in general)
8. One of These Days ("my Canadian prairie home")
9. Prairie Wind (Cypress River - hell, the whole album is about Canada)
10. Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere (OK, a stretch - it's about NOT being in Canada where, apparently, it's "cool and breezy.")

And of course, Rufus. Actually, Rufus Wainwright's dad did a fantastic song called White Winos. Does anyone know if Rufus covered it? That, I'd like to hear.

My wife and our best friend used to razz me about Rush only having one song on which they hang many sets of lyrics, but that's a vile calumny on a band which has done so much to brighten my life.

And Kirsty, yes, Geddy Lee, Rush's lead vocalist and writer of many Rush hit songs, has a rather high voice.

- "These Eyes," by the Guess Who
- "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald," by Gordon Lightfoot
- "Closer to the Heart," by Rush
- "Big Yellow Taxi," by Joni Mitchell
- "Chelsea Morning," by Joni Mitchell
- "Red Barchetta," by Rush
- "Cygnus X-1," by Rush
- "Constant Craving," by kd lang
- "The Highwayman," by Loreena McKennitt
- "Rain Dance," by the Guess Who

Everyone 'too cool' to mention Summer of 69 by Bryan Adams?

I'm not. Great song.

We just figured Bryan Adams was soooo cool that comparisons with other Canadian song artists would be unfair :) (ducks flying gobbets of poutine headed his way)
