Default Exposition to Parts Unknown

From Digger and amner on Worst Self-Published Books:
Quote:
'Martin, you devil. What took you so long to escape from the Russians?' A tall blond woman opened the door and pulled him inside. 'What the hell were you doing at a missile base, anyway?'
I recently signed on to the SFFWorld forum after seeing they do a read and feedback thing with each other's writing (and now I wish I'd skipped it, to be honest. Fan Boy Fiction starring the likes of X'zruthigrog and Miryllkyridor and others of that ilk). The potential highlight was an ongoing contest to "Hook me in 25 words or less" - meaning the best intro to a non-existent story.

Most were cringe worthy, have a look (if you don't mind waiting a speculative eternity for the forum to load - I wrote two towards the current end, you can snigger at my sci-fi face if you like). ANYWAY, the above quote made me think - anyone fancy having a go at the opposite? Using that thing as the template, here's the challenge:

Write an opening passage to convey as much plot and exposition in the fewest number of words and simultaneously destroy any chance that your reader would ever open the covers again.

great suggestion Nou - I shall ponder, and in the meanwhile enjoy everyone else's suggestiongs... actually, as I'm awful at creative writing I should be fairly good at this!

And an extra point to the person who can find the thread where we did something half-similar to this before - either created our own or gathered existing examples of highly putdownable openings. Can't for the life of me find it though.

ANYWAY...

"That that!" he yodeled, firing shot after shot.
Come on then.

What's the matter, eh?

Marie had never felt more grateful as she cradled the hammer in her arms and watched Franklin oh so gently hang the frame. It was perfect. He was perfect.

"I love you so much," she whispered to herself.
Where's your tool?

These little asides are meant to be provocative fighting talk, in case this wasn't clear. Sorry. And I guess these go towards setting a 50 word limit. Thanks.
