Default Book number 1 - BRIGHTON ROCK by Graham Greene

First up, Graham Greene's classic Brighton Rock.

This officially starts from today, but we'll let it run till the end of June to give everyone a chance, and we'll see how things go. That is to say, no chat about the book until July 1st, unless agreed otherwise.

Stick messages up when you have finished, as per the rules!

Hang on, is that the end of june to read the book, or the end of june to talk about it?

They are my rules and now I am confused!

I think we should be allowed until the end of June to read it, and then talk about it in the first days of July, whilst simultaneously starting to read the next book. Which would mean that the next person on the list to choose - v. likely Amner at this point - would have to have their choice of book ready to announce at the end of June too.

More people, I think (judging by the Beeb's messageboard replies), will have joined us by then, so we'll see about the alphabetical thing .. though I confess it isn't difficult to think of a book I've been dying to read for years (and it's also on the Penguin Classics - a £1 a copy - list).

You'll have to wait though.

Just had a look on Amazon for Brighton Rock.

The easiest copy to get hold seems to be published by Vintage:

Brighton Rock at Amazon

But just don't read the reviews! Not only might they put you off the book, but some of them will make you want to go on a killing spree, enraged that people could be so witless.
