I would agree with Kevin that some kind of re-launch of some kind would be useful. As someone who avoids the Twitter-world and most of Facebook as well, I would maintain that this kind of site has great value in householding and archiving serious reviews and discussion of books and films, as well as other subjects.

Reviews of any size (above 140 characters would be a plus) are always welcome.

I'm afraid the technical stuff is beyond me. Hopefully Wavid will come along and update the system and help with the spam situation. It is irritating more to have to delete posts by spam members than deleting spam registrations (now that I know how to do it in bulk measures).

I agree, Col, that this site has great value for the reasons you mentioned. I use the site a lot, much more than is evident by my posts. Every time I finish a book I come here to see what people think of it. It's easier than checking out multiple blogs, and discussions are easier to follow here than on blogs.

I can do the technical stuff if you want help.

Ang,
I salute your honesty and your willingness to help in the details. If I can help let me know. But I am eager to hear more of what you say about the books you've read. I think we need more involvement to make it shake, not less. I know other things keep one from committing the time it takes to lengthy review: but it is obvious from others' views that you are someone we all look forward to hearing from.
If you can, I you will, let us know what you are thinking. You are missed . . .

Ah, that's very nice to hear, kjml. I didn't consciously lower my level of posting. The reasons are more logistical: I used to work from home, always at my computer. Now I work for the local council, so I'm just not around as much.

Understandable Ang, of course. Just so you know . . .

Absolutely. I use both Twitter and Facebook, yet neither can give me what the Palimpsest does.

Another thought - a few Palimpsesters have taken to writing mini (and not so mini!) reviews in their Palimplists, and although it's great that opinions are being shared in such enthusiastic detail, it's not an ideal place to start a discussion. Wouldn't it be a better idea to post a separate review each time instead, and go back to only using the Palimplists for ratings and the briefest of comments?

I've a feeling I'm going to end up answering my own question, but I've often held back on posting thoughts on books if I feel the book is not very 'current', or is unlikely to figure on anyone else's radar (sorry for the cliché there). Is it worth posting regardless of such reservations?

That's what I figured. Thoughts on The End of the Affair duly posted.
