I watched Religious earlier this year and was rather underwhelmed to be honest. I have this habit of unfavorably comparing... er, "that guy", something Leher? ...to John Stewart, which may have coloured my reception of it. I found it generally a bit obvious and in places a bit crap, with some cheap shots - although it is rapidly fading from memory and the only one the comes to mind was him telling some stoner he was interviewing that the candle behind his head had set his hair on fire so we could see the guy flapping about in momentary panic.

Hmm. I guess that's my review of it then.

That was pretty much my take on Religulous as well, though I think I gave it a weak at the time. A few cheap laughs and one or two good points, but also some cheapshots that just felt both mean and counterproductive. I remember there's one scene in which he criticises a young Dutch muslim woman for not being a grade A fundamentalist; you'd think that would be a good thing, but no, if everyone did that Maher wouldn't have an easy target.
