I'm considering entering the Mslexia competition for first-time novels - does anyone have any impressions on whether this is a good idea.

I hear the prizes are quite high, and that they are more interested in "lit" than "chick lit" (this may not be a problem for you, Col, but I think it put off the person it was said to!). Unless things have changed, they charge £25 to enter, read the first 5000 words then filter entrants based on that, so I'd make sure your opening was pretty hot stuff.

Mslexia have some good people on the judging panel usually. I'd say it's well worth it.
