Pretty thin pickings though, I must admit. I don't know,I thought that Withnail and I was a bit annoying.Its supposed to be dark but I thought they were just a bit whiny and indulgent... |

Is it supposed to be dark? They ARE whiny and self-indulgent - I thought that was what it's about: whiny, self-indulgent characters being whiny and self-indulgent on a holiday that's meant to be great but turns out pretty rubbish. Somehow that horrible-sounding premise becomes a highly entertaining, lovingly created film with a very funny, sharp dialogue.
