Withnail and I

Pretty thin pickings though, I must admit.

I don't know,I thought that Withnail and I was a bit annoying. Its supposed to be dark but I thought they were just a bit whiny and indulgent...

Is it supposed to be dark? They ARE whiny and self-indulgent - I thought that was what it's about: whiny, self-indulgent characters being whiny and self-indulgent on a holiday that's meant to be great but turns out pretty rubbish. Somehow that horrible-sounding premise becomes a highly entertaining, lovingly created film with a very funny, sharp dialogue.

1984
Trainspotting
Secrets and Lies
Brazil
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
Mona Lisa
My Left Foot
The Elephant Man
24 hours party people
Shallow Grave
I think the best online casino is Ruby Fortune Casino, it has the greatest games.
These are my top ten.

Excellent choices trudymiles. Trainspotting, Shallow Grave and Brazil in particular for me out of those, though I have to admit I haven't seen every film on your list. Mind you, although Brazil is cited as a UK film on IMDB, with the wandering creative mind of Terry Gilliam at its heart I can't quite bring myself to call it a British film - more 'other-worldly', perhaps.

Hmm, just spotted the subliminal message between the lines of our new member's post. Don't I feel like an idiot now.

Not to worry - I pointed the same person out to Amner on another thread recently, but I don't think any of the overlords have stepped in as yet.

Honestly, we're all just so delighted to have new blood around here that Trudy could try to sell us her soul and we'd let her. If she hadn't obviously done so already. I hope she's getting more from Kiss My Ruby Ring Casino than one american cent a post, that's the kind of rate such jobs go for on Elance and the like...

I think our Trudy has since edited that post and removed the offending text. Sneaky Trudy.

Turn from the Dark Side, Trudy, and become one of us. You could be happy here.

In no particular order:

1 ) A Cock and Bull Story
2 ) A Fish Called Wanda
3 ) Trainspotting
4 ) Children of Men
5 ) 28 Days
6 ) 1984
7 ) Brazil
8 ) Threads
9 ) Snatch
10 ) My Left Foot

Surprised "Threads" didn't figure in anyone else's list... it's much harder-hitting (and possibly more accurate) than its American equivalent "The Day After."

Snatch is possibly the funniest film made in Britain during that time period.
