Default Re: Top 10 sad songs

Leavin' on a Jet Plane - Peter, Paul and Mary - so soft, simple and plaintive, the very last "oh babe I hate to go" always does it

Try to Remember - Roy Orbison - his voice just wraps you up and dabs the corners of your eyes like a soft handkerchief

Accidentally Like a Martyr - Warren Zevon - "The phone don't ring, nono, then the sun refused to shine..." sniff, sniff

On Every Street- Dire Straits - Knopfler's voice and the lyrics of this one are perfect sadness "...every victory has a taste that's bittersweet"

Memory - only by Grizabella the Glamour Cat

Were You There When They Crucified My Lord - by anyone

Smoke Gets in Your Eyes - street performers

The last two exist only in my mind, the first in my father's voice as I rested in his lap while he sang Moon River to me. The other, Edelweiss, in my mother's voice as she'd sing it to me and my sisters.
