Re: Comics

Bit late to the party on this one, but I really liked the first two - Excel & Hugh. Funny, plus excellent characterisations.

I don't do many comics, but I like the occasional one. Three to six...

Re: Highlights of 2013

New Book of the Year
Don't think I read one. Sadly.

Old Book of the Year
The Tenant, Roland Topor

Worst Book of the Year
Probably Nightland by Louis Owen. Just found it really dull.

New...

Re: Doctor Who

Bizarrely, I knew what was going on during this episode but was lost - and therefore lost interest - with the 50th Anniversarry episode. During the hype and build-up I tend to check out DW forums and...

Re: Doctor Who

Re: Issues and Problems

Interesting. I sent a tweet to Wavid asking him to look into the forum. He never replied to me, but looks like he at least acted on it.

Favourite Scottish Books of the Last 50 Years

Here's a list, curated by Stuart Kelly (Booker judge this year) and Scottish Book Trust staff. Written in Scotland or the author lives in Scotland are the criteria. You can vote for yours here...

Re: Breaking Bad

Completely different to my approach. I watched all 62 episodes in five days. Think that says everything for what I thought of it.

Why wait until the end of November? You can sign up to Netflix for...

Re: Booker Prize 2013

I finished the T√≥ib√*n yesterday and was pretty much underwhelmed by the whole thing, and have plumped for a lowly **000 although I know overall that that is my fault rather than the author's. I...

Booker Prize 2013

Nothing like a book prize to try and kickstart the forum's fortunes. So, without further ado, here's the longlist:

We Need New Names, NoViolet...

Re: Alasdair Gray

Yes, he certainly designs his books. But it's mostly just illustrations and the like. Typeface wouldn't surprise me, either. Should you worry about a physical copy? I wouldn't say so.

Re: The Apprentice

Don't know that I would call the Craft Beer Co. in Clerkenwell a gastropub as their food offerings are limited to Scotch eggs and pork pies. Great pub though, and one I go to when in London. When I...
