Re: Folio Prize 2015

You are right Ang. Nora Webster and 10:04 both eligible for the 2015 Booker.

I found 10:04 a clever concept but it left me cold. I'm about to start on All My Puny Sorrows .

Re: Folio Prize 2015

I've read 31 of the 80, and abandoned After Me Comes The Flood. I wasn't too impressed by 10:04. Lots of rave reviews so I'm obviously missing something.

Some stand-out books from last year on...

Re: H is for Hawk : Helen Macdonald

Amner, glad you think you loved The Goshawk. I never did read it, but I'm sorely tempted to pick it up after going along to an event with Helen Macdonald to promote H is for Hawk.

I'll read...

Re: Recently Abandoned

Give up, Lucoid. I did finish the book but found it very 'meh'. Don't know why I bothered.

My hope is that The Goldfinch doesn't appear on next week's Booker longlist.

Re: 2013 Palimplist Conversations

My first dip in to Sedaris, Ang. Some of the essays made me laugh out loud, one or two others were just okay. I did consider getting a ticket for his Fringe show but my schedule for the next 2...

Re: Michelle de Kretser: The Lost Dog

David, I remember being unimpressed by The Lost Dog. I looked at a copy of Questions Of Travel in Waterstone's recently but, at more than 500 pages, I won't be investing time in this one.

Re: War Horse

Saw it at the weekend and I enjoyed it but felt it was a bit predictable. The film is a 12A and I'm not sure an 11 year old wouldn't be upset by some of the WW1 battlefield scenes, and the fate of...

Re: 2012 Palimplist Conversations

("soft gay porn"?) Depends what you mean by porn. There are a couple of gay characters and one of the guys gets a blow-job. Is that considered soft porn these days?
