Re: Film Lists 2013

1. War Horse - ***00 - Spielberg in child-friendly Saving Private Ryan mode. It's a tad overblown and somewhat unbelievable (though that might come from the source novel which I haven't read).

Re: Top 10 Misused Words

Re: 2011 Filmlists

1. Bob Roberts ***00 Liked this better first time round. Doesn't seem quite so acerbic now. The Bob Dylan pastiches are still pretty good, though.

Re: Toy Story 3, or, Pixar Does It Again.

A definite ***** movie. Went to see this yesterday and don't mind admitting that I cried at the end and during the incinerator scene. And I never cry at movies. Jeez.

Re: Maj Sjöwall & Per Wahlöö: The Martin Beck Series

The Laughing Policeman was part of Orion's Crime Masterworks series a few years ago and is generally regarded as one of the best of all the Beck books. I'm looking forward to reading the rest in the...

Re: Maj Sjöwall & Per Wahlöö: The Martin Beck Series

Great review, Stewart. This was a ****0 book for me. Beck is a fascinating character whose dogged determination is what solves the case. I love the fact that there was no big reveal about the killer....

Re: Top 10 weepies - literature (not films)

Either I'm a tough guy, or I haven't read enough books (the latter, I suspect) but the only book I cried at was Pet Sematary by Stephen King. Anyone who's read the book can probably guess at what...
