Re: Most Hated Words

Yes, lots of adults do that now, don't they?

He knows how to spell.

Re: Most Hated Words

Re: Most Hated Words

I think that's exactly how I do it too... I'm losing track though. This is because I don't necessarily try to pronounce things in a more British way, it just comes naturally after a while... ...

Re: Most Hated Words

Tell him to go a little further out and try to talk to the locals in Alexandria or Balloch. It's a good game. Seriously though, I love Scottish accents and I am a bit partial to the west (don't...

Re: Most Hated Words

Yes, I think it is aDULT in the US... I do start to lose track when I haven't been back in a long while. So maybe that's how I said it when my "friends" questioned what I was saying.

Re: Most Hated Words

Not offended at all, I'm used to it. I'm sorry to have made it seem I was getting at you. That wasn't my intention.

I'm perhaps just a tad sensitive because last week I was in the pub with a...

Re: Most Hated Words

I've been in the UK for 15 years and I have adapted my speech for most British pronunciation, but there are exceptions I just will not do, and "speciality" is one of them. I avoid it all together and...

Re: Most Hated Words

Peronel, I'm not getting at you in particular, but some people dislike anything they deem American. I won't go into why I think people are like this - it might start a war.

Re: Most Hated Words

Re: Most Hated Words

Oh yea, my son uses this word all the time and I have yet to hear him say it in the right context. It has become a bit of a joke between us now.
