Re: Filmimplist Conversations

I always try to list the films I started but abandoned. Mostly because I use the list as an aide-mémoire. There are limits to my cinematic masochism (honest!) and, one day, reminding myself that I...

Re: Filmimplist Conversations

May I recommend The Salute of the Juggers (aka Blood of Heroes) which is a post-apocalyptic SF film starring Rutger Hauer and Joan Chen and is one of the best films I know on his theme. The game...

Re: Filmimplist Conversations

Agreed. It's not all 'sports movies' that this happens in. I don't understand American Football but I've never failed to grasp the basic premise of any scene that hinges on the outcome of the final...

Re: Filmimplist Conversations

It's amazing isn't it? When is Hollywood going to get it in it's thick collective skull that no one outside North America (and Puerto Rico) understands (or cares about) Baseball?

Any film that...

That is what I meant. (But then I am a child of the 60s and still stuffed full of naive optimism.)

Re: Filmimplist Conversations

Here's one movie buff who didn't like Stalker. I love Tarkovskiy's Solaris (one of my all time top ten rewatched films I think) but Stalker bored the pants off me.

Re: Filmimplist Conversations

Don't worry Mookse, I've loved the Tarkovsky version ever since I first saw it in the cinema aged 16 or so (I was an insufferably arty little twerp) and have seen it several times since. I saw the...

Re: Filmimplist Conversations

Ghost Dog has been in my TBR pile for a while now. I really like Jim Jarmush's films but each time I pick it up I remember Forest Whitaker is in it and my brain just fills up with him in Battlefield...

Re: Filmimplist Conversations

I've only seen Aguirre Wrath of God and Fitzcarraldo (the shame of it). Of the two I thought Fitzcarraldo was far more interesting. Both feature Klaus Kinski going bonkers up a river but...

Re: Filmimplist Conversations

I was really disappointed in S1m0ne. I thought Nichol's previous movies; Gattaca and The Truman Show were far better. I can't remember why it didn't fully engage mebut I do remember the moment...

Re: Filmimplist Conversations

I too have noticed this from time to time. I presumed it was people just being on the set (visiting) and getting themselves written in for the fun of it - or to help out. I know Jack Nicholson was...

Re: Filmimplist Conversations

I quite enjoyed it in a pretty non-judgemental, watching a movie with the kids, pizza and popcorn way. I love reading Dr S's books to my kids and was slightly dreading seeing Horton being bollocksed...
