don't you get terribly frustrated when Holmes, or Watson, refers to events or examples from other cases that havn't actually been published?

Of course, now I can't think of any off the top of my head - apart from the one where they refer to the case of the 'Captain (I think), the Lighthouse and the tamed cormorant'! Read it a couple of nights ago but cant remember which case it is - hopeless. I don't think that cormorant one's ever been published, unless you can enlighten me.

The classic here of course is The Giant Rat of Sumatra ("...for which the world is not ready", as hinted at rather dramatically in The Five Orange Pips. There's also The Vatican Cameos, mentioned in Hound (not a Dan Brown reference, I hope).

It's in The Veiled Lodger in Casebook. It's not backed up by a proper story, no.

and there have been one or several dozen 'lost' cases turning up in bank vaults and forgotten dispatch boxes ever since.

You know, I think we should write 'The Giant Rat of Sumatra'!

See the Sherlock game in Palimpton Crescent, Digger. You could try and get the giant rat into that, I am sure!

I might swap The Blue Carbuncle for The Norwood Builder. :?

Well, I didn't say it was my ten best :D

Like a top movies or top songs list, it kind of changes every time I think about it.

LOL

All this wintery weather put me in a Christmas mood I guess.

BTW are you in any SH Societies?

I used to be in the Sherlock Holmes Society of London, indeed I have a letter from them which I can see out of the corner of my eye, requesting me to re-join. I wear their tie to work, once in a while, though whether or not I'm now allowed to - having lapsed - I don't know.

When I was a kid I wrote to Mr Holmes and Mr Watson at 221b Baker St. Whilst being fully aware that Mr holmes wasn't really real, I was thrilled :D to get a reply from Mr Holmes thanking me for my interest, at such a young age, into his cases.

I was later told that the company who owns/occupies 221b has a member of staff whose job it is to reply to such letters. I wonder if that's still true. Far more satisfying than writing to Santa!

mine also lapsed. Felt bad it being 150years :?
Been to a couple of society do's not the London ones as I'm up north and the annual dinner requests I wear a cocktail dress - um no. Have to say I thought it may have been a little like a Star Trek convention, I suppose any sort of meeting like that can feel that way even if you're with a bunch of writers and scholars, the uniform is different though 8) They are actually good fun. :P
Have to renew a couple of subs the end of this year.

May I recommend the Northern Musgraves.

It is!

There is also a book to sign if you visit. Not that I have done anything like that. I've just read about it 8)
