Very, very funny (http://www.standardsboard.co.uk/cases/authorities_s/S_SBE1295_02_2306_03A.php)
Just to try and turn this into a proper debate, what are our views on local government, palimpeople?

They're all a bunch or self-serving, egotistical barstewards who's modus operandi includes the closure of sports centres in an age of increasing childhood obesity :x

The North East has started voting on having its own regional assembly (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/3752014.stm).
I'm actually in broad favour of these, but not in their current form. I would say that more powers should be devolved to them, and that at least one tier of local government should be abolished underneath them. For example, why bother having County Councils under a regional assembly?
edit: just read that there would be some reorganisation of second tier government, but it isn't quite clear what it would be...
