OK, I deserve to be shot down in flames, since this is not a top ten, nor is it a list of favourite books, movies or pieces of music. But no-one else has posted anything yet today and I was bored, so I shall post it anyway. Hah.

Top five things I would like to be (in order of priority)

1 Clever
2 Happy
3 Successful
4 Just
5 Charismatic

Of course the fact that I rate intelligence above contentment means that I deserve to be miserable.

The complete omission of 'Healthy' from this list clearly shows that I take good health for granted and therefore should be struck down immediately with some dreadful affliction in order that I be taught a lesson.

Rating both cleverness and happiness above success means that I am unlikely ever to achieve anything, and placing fairness so far down the list is an indubitable sign that I care little for my fellow human beings.

And the fact that I included 'charismatic' at all must mean I am a dreadful egoist who just wants to be adored by others.

Why was I ever allowed into these forums?

Personally I'd want
not 5000 pounds in debt
somewhere on the list, maybe instead of charismatic which was never really going to be me anyway. Like you suggested afterwards I'd probably want healthy instead of successful. I can't really imagine having gonnorhea or syphillis is as much fun as it's cracked up to be, even if you are a) a best-selling author, b) nobel-prize winner or c) winner of rear of the year award for the fifth time running.

And happy.Happy's gotta be numero uno. Or at least being at peace with yourself. I know it's not eggsactlee Aristottel or Kant, he said, puetting onn a do-jy frensh acsont and leading the camera across the fields in a Pythonesque manner, but hey zat's my philosophie. If you don't like eet, well...

I'd like to be:

1) Forthright

--What does that mean?
--I dunno exactly.
--Then why would you want to be it?
--Sounds cool.
--Yeah, I guess it does.
EDIT: But that's not enough to justify it on this list. I kinda like evasiveness and ambiguity. Let me change this to. . .

1 revised) Suffused with Gratitude

After all, things could always be worse than they are now. Like my Mom always says, we should count our blessings. (Has anyone ever read Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are? by Dr. Seuss? One of the great books. Truly.)

2) Consistent with my ideals.

(Is there a word for that?)
I'm too much of a go with the flow kinda guy. Flakey, you know? And it bugs me. But of course I've got to have the right sort of ideals, which leads into . . .

3) Wise

Which I understand to be different from . . .

4) Knowledgeable

Meaning aware of the world, it's history, people, their ideas, etc. Wisdom I see as more of a transcendent quality.

5) Selflessly, Unconditionally Loving

I mean, who can beat that?
