Your brain, like a muscle, just wants to throw in the towel after an x amount of reading: does this happen to you? What about starting a reading session. Regardless of how enjoyable the story is, do you always have to push yourself to start reading each time you pick up the novel? What’s the remedy? Read more…?

Usually I get through an average sized book in 2-3 days, occasionally I'll do one in a single session (usually on a sun lounger with a bar not far away. Sometimes though I struggle to read more than a few pages at a time and the book I should have polished off in a couple of days lasts a month or more. Often it's because it's not lighting my fire but sometimes I know it's good but because I have other things on my mind I just can't 'get into it'.
There's no remedy, you don't have to read, if your mind's not on it, leave it, you'll appreciate the book much more if you pick it up when you really feel like it.
Much as anything in life I suppose...
I can only take about 50 pages of Pynchon at a time. He tires my synapses quickly I guess. For most other authors it depends on how fast I read. It's been proven that reading faster elevates brain activity. It also seems to wear my eyes out faster.
