Bloke and I are considering a trip to the pictures this weekend, but other than Underworld I don't really know much about what's on at the moment. Anyone got any goss on new releases - what would you recommend and what should we avoid like the plague?

(If anyone says Freddie V Jason I will be most displeased - we went the other week for M's birthday treat and I had nightmares about Freddie chasing me.)

Well, I reviewed Spirited Away last weekend over on Reviews, which was released a fortnight ago. It's an anime film though, so maybe you wouldn't fancy that. Young Adam was released today (Ewan McGregor, Tilda Swinton) and that had good reviews in every paper I've seen so far.

I was reading (for the first time in ages) some film reviews this morning. They were in metro and pretty much agreed with the review below:

Where they overlap of course, and both agreed that "Young Adam" was the best new release.

You've probably seen it already...but if you haven't I can thoroughly recommend Calendar Girls....very, very funny....

No, I haven't seen Calendar Girls yet, though I have been recommended that by someone else too. And from the little bit I've heard about it (and your review, Colyngbourne), I think I would like Spirited Away - unfortunately I don't think I could get the boyf to see it. We didn't make it to the cinema in the end, so we may go this weekend - keep the recommendations coming!

I've not heard of Young Adam, but will look into it.
